Objectives:
• Understand the burden of menopausal symptoms.
• Summarize the role of KNDy neurons in the pathophysiology of VMS and other symptoms of menopause.
• Recognize and assess the advantages, potential risks and contraindications of various treatment options for VMS, to guide informed treatment decisions.
• Apply techniques for shared decision making when discussing the available therapies for VMS with women.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Elissa Weinberg received her Medical Degree and completed her Family Medicine Residency at the University of Ottawa in 2000. A Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, she has been a Family Physician and co-managing partner at Shops on Steeles Medical Centre in Thornhill since 2000, caring for patients across all ages. She has a special interest in women’s health, particularly perimenopause and menopause, and runs a referral-based practice focused on midlife care. From 2014 to 2023, she served as a Peer Assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Deeply committed to continuing medical education, Dr. Weinberg has facilitated McMaster FMPE’s Practice-Based Small Group Learning (PBSG) Program for over 20 years and contributed to scientific committees developing accredited programs in various therapeutic areas. She also teaches medical students, residents, and nurse practitioners at her practice, holds a staff position at North York General Hospital, and is a Lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto.
