Learning Objectives
Differentiate expected bleeding changes associated with hormonal contraception from patterns that warrant further investigation.
Assess bleeding patterns in the context of contraceptive method, duration of use, pregnancy risk, clinical history, and other potential causes.
Apply evidence-based strategies to manage persistent or bothersome unscheduled bleeding, including counselling, treatment modification, further investigation, and contraceptive change when appropriate.
About the Speaker
Dr. Carol-Anne Vallée is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist at CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal, Quebec. She completed advanced fellowship training in Family Planning and Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at the University of British Columbia. Her clinical interests include contraception, abortion care, and the reproductive health of adolescents and young adults. Dr. Vallée is also deeply involved in medical education as Co-Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the Université de Montréal and Co-Lead of the undergraduate medical course on the female reproductive and urogynecologic system for first-year medical students.
