Pediatric skin concerns are common in primary care, but conditions that look alike can call for different treatment. This practical workshop will help you assess skin findings systematically, recognize common conditions and their mimics, and make informed decisions about treatment, follow-up, and referral. You’ll work through cases with both faculty and have time to ask questions.

Learning objectives
By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:
Use a systematic approach to pediatric skin concerns, including focused history, lesion morphology, and distribution
Distinguish common pediatric skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, from frequent mimics
Recognize diagnostic clues and red flags that guide referral
Apply evidence-based management across severity levels, including skin-barrier care, topical treatments, and systemic options
Counsel caregivers about treatment, follow-up, and what to expect
Accreditation
NP Circle is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity is designated for 3.0 ANCC contact hours. Pharmacology hours will be confirmed following final content review.

About the experts
Dr. Marissa Joseph is an Associate Professor and the Inaugural AbbVie Chair in Ethnodermatology at the University of Toronto. She is Medical Director of the Ricky Kanee Schachter Dermatology Centre at Women’s College Hospital and a Staff Physician in Dermatology at SickKids. Double board-certified in pediatrics and dermatology, she cares for children with complex skin disease and leads a pediatric laser program. Her clinical and academic work includes inflammatory skin conditions, genodermatoses, and equity in dermatologic care.
Dr. Cathryn Sibbald is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and a dermatologist at SickKids and St. Joseph’s Health Centre. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Toronto and a pediatric dermatology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She leads a pediatric and young adult inflammatory disease clinic and co-leads specialty clinics for alopecia, morphea, and hidradenitis suppurativa at SickKids.
