This self-paced online course is designed for nurse practitioners and other primary care clinicians who want an evidence-based approach to the most common skin concerns seen in everyday practice.
From acute rashes and infections to chronic conditions and long-term management, each topic is broken down into clear, actionable steps using a practical approach that strengthens focused history taking, morphology-based assessment, diagnostic reasoning, first-line management, and referral decision making.
Content is developed by primary care nurse practitioners in collaboration with leading dermatologists, keeping it practical, primary care friendly, and aligned with real clinic workflows. The curriculum intentionally includes representation of diverse skin tones to ensure you can confidently diagnose common conditions on all patients.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
Define the primary and secondary morphological characteristics of common skin lesions to ensure accurate clinical documentation across diverse skin tones.
Identify evidence-based first-line pharmacologic treatments for common inflammatory, infectious, pediatric, and facial dermatoses.
Distinguish between common look-alike conditions by comparing anatomical distribution, lesion morphology, and clinical timing.
Recognize clinical red flags and dermatological emergencies that necessitate immediate specialist referral or urgent escalation.
Summarize patient education points and systematic screening steps for chronic skin disease management and skin oncology.
