CKD in Primary Care Course
Coming 2026

Improve patient outcomes through early recognition and evidence-based intervention.

Chronic kidney disease is common, progressive, and frequently under-recognized in primary care. Early stages are often missed, risk is underestimated, and opportunities to slow progression are lost. This self-paced online course is designed for nurse practitioners and primary care clinicians who want a clear, evidence-based framework for identifying, staging, and managing kidney disease across the full continuum of care.

The course emphasizes clinical reasoning over isolated lab values. Participants learn how to recognize CKD earlier, interpret kidney labs with confidence, and implement disease-modifying strategies that meaningfully improve outcomes. A strong focus is placed on the workup of proteinuria, cardiovascular risk reduction, and timely intervention including when to escalate care or refer to nephrology.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify chronic kidney disease earlier in primary care using appropriate screening and confirmation strategies.

  • Describe the evidence-based frameworks used to stage CKD accurately and assess patient risk.

  • Explain how to interpret common kidney-related labs, specifically albuminuria and eGFR, to support clinical decision-making.

  • Discuss evidence-based strategies to slow CKD progression and reduce cardiovascular risk in the primary care setting.

  • Recognize clinical indicators that necessitate the escalation of care or referral to nephrology.
